............If you are new to this page, the latest action is first. to read the progression of news ,scroll down to the bottom and start from there!
SAT 18TH JULY.........the club day went off, heaps of kids turned up and saw some massive jumps and competed in a variety of events. Sam King-turner kick ass on the xc, with most riders pulling out cause they were too knackered to finish and wanted energy for the huck competition.
we will hold a similar event in spring with more effort channelled towards the very young/ beginner riders( i didnt expect so many to turn up).
I have had some interest about the riding skills lessons that i run in the park. there are no set times or classes. If you're keen its best to contact me for a chat.( Rod, 021 588498/ 04 9053008) if you can get some mates together it can be as cheap as $10 each to learn some great skills to get you shredding the trails.
As i type this, our top secret pump track is being built( spose i should head on over and heckle the digger driver "more dirt! steeper! wheres my coffee"...stuff like that. remember, you must be a member of the mtb club to ride this track so join up, its free.
great news, i had a meeting with the Mayor last week and she is right behind the mtb explosion that i have planned for the kapiti coast. i am in delicate discussions to create a beautiful singletrack loop near town with a massive descent and access to Whareroa farm. i cant give you details as i need to tread softly...sorry.
LINK ROAD? who knows but i can tell you that the Park will stay and will get bigger and better. we just need to re-elect Jenny Rowan when the time comes.
wed17th june 2009.sorry, another massive holiday. but things are happening at warp speed now. the Link road will never happen, so the park is back in full swing. we're having a club day at the park sunday 28th june. heaps of competitions, races, demo's and stuff for the kids.
the new Kapiti MTB club is full steam ahead and membership is free!!! we have regular club rides so get in quick. coming soon is a DH track and pump track, on private land for members only, so join up now!
sat 10th jan 2009... lookout, i'm back after a massive holiday at my house where i only left to terrorise walkers on the holy grail of trails...Mt Vic.heaps of gossip to come, but already i'm knackered. later...
sun 9th march....great news, the planned tree removal has been delayed for at least 8 months so its shredding as usual. steve and rich are part way thru building a MASSIVE jump trail to the left of super mario. its gonna be sick!!!!!!!!!!!unfortunately Rae has found fame and has moved to auckland( sucked!) so we need another expert raker.the last few months have been a bit quiet in the park as far as trail work goes, due to all you lazy riders expecting mtb trails to miraculously appear in front of you while you laze on the sofa. come on , the park NEEDS YOU!its your chance to put in the type of trails that you want to ride.
we need wood....lots of 4x2 type lengths to join the pallets up. please ask around your builder mates.
the new KAPTI MOUNTAINBIKE CLUB is now official and we will be organising a few rides about Wgtn as well as the odd bbq and fundraising events. now is the time to join as mtbing is gonna get pretty good round these parts, especially as its looking like we can build heaps of trails in the new Whareroa farm trail project. if you want to join up then get in touch.
mon 10 dec.....what happened at the last workday????? we moved the twisted sister landing ramp(as well as adding a safety ramp) and put some safety ramps on the last 2 jumps after Jacksplat, so now the whole Sam I Am trail is way easier to ride slow.who was there to help??? "ho hum yawn"the same old legends... me,Rich, Rae, Jack, mr X and Damian, who dropped off some concrete shutters, so now we can build a massive wall ride.
HELP!!!!!!!!! i need some lengths of timber (4"x2" in at least 2 metre lengths) so i can build some more ramps. the plan is to add down ramps to some of the big jumps so those riders with smaller bollocks can do the big stuff. this wont change the jumps for the better endowed( more stupid) riders as they will fly over the ramps without touching them.so ask your builder mates or do you know someone who works in the trade?? or what about a neighbour who has a nice fence we can borrow for a couple of years???????come on....if you cant get off your ass to help build the trails how about getting someone in your house to pass the portable phone over to you on the sofa and let your fingers do the walking. awesome.
there are heaps of pinecones lying around so tell all your mates/parents who have log burners to come in and get a stash for winter.
there are afew of us who will be forming a real Kapiti MTB club soon, and will be doing club rides to hot riding locations in the greater Wellington area. if your'e keen to get involved, give me a call. Rod 9053008/ 021588498.
well, last work action saw me , Rae and Rich (yeah, i know, only the 3 of us again....where are the rest of you punks??????) add some slats to the new razorback seesaw to widen it...its sweet to ride at any speed now...EASY! and of course Rae did her usual top notch job of raking the Ampitheatre trails.speaking of Rae once again(boring i know) she then jumped on her bike (no armour) and totally ripped the Huckster trail including the double on the wall of death. the only chick i know of to hit that trail! and unless she fell off her bike and died, she will have won her grade at the PNP series today.wicked!
had a chat to my main man Giles from the council about the future of the park and looks like he's going to throw his weight about and try to keep the ampitheatre left as it is so we can still have a park while the road is built. Everything is looking sweet for a new and better park to be built after the road goes through.
i have decided to put in a long beginners jump trail and also a picnic area with tables and benches. also a few random benches to sit and watch the hardcore jumping action. JUST NEED SOME OF YOU GUYS TO ACTUALLY TURN UP TO HELP INSTEAD OF JUST RIDING.
SEE YOU THERE, ROD.
wed 31 oct...good news....the council have had to put the tree removal on hold as it appears our awesome new mayor has kicked some ass. also its looks like we will get our own underpass under the road to access both sides of the park. the council seem to actually value the Park and are prepared to throw some serious work at it come rebuild time. i'm thinking about promoting myself to El Presidento de Parko and taking a huge salary and getting a helipad and stretched limo with dirt jumps in the back.
here's some goss.... the now infamous Raewyn has bounced back from a life threatening wrist operation ,only to being approached by a famous bike store and also a huge sports store chain, to be offered a job and a sponsorship deal. and she started riding only 2 years ago.NICE WORK. im sure its those riding tips i gave her in the park (except that tip about cross-ups over the trough jump that got her wrist broken in the first place).
good on you Rae.... LEGEND!
wed 17 oct.....gee, its been a while.whats new? a new northshore singletrack off the outback trail, called razorback. it ends with a seesaw step-up to a ramp and a seesaw step-down...BEWARE,ITS VERY TRICKY. its another one of mad Grants contraptions and i think we'll have to make the seesaw planks a bit wider. also the landing ramp of twisted sister will be moved half a meter to the left and twisted even more so you can whip it out more drastically. (your bike you sicko)
oh yeah..., council have decided to fell all the pines in the park cause they reckon they can get 100,000 dollars for them. its refreshing to know that they can put a dollar value on the worth of our new sport in kapiti, i reckon up to 200 kapiti youth will be forced back onto the streets( i know, we'll rebuild the park through the coastlands rail underpass). though with that section of western link rd costing 106 million, the 100 grand they get back will make all the ratepayers breathe a bit easier huh.
interestingly, peter ellis, who heads "sport kapiti" voted to chop down the trees. i dont know what to think of that. do you?( he's a roadie!!!! do you think he's jealous?????)
BUT.......hoorah, my new best friend Jenny Rowan (our new mayor)has vowed to do her bit to save the park and has volunteered to spike the first tree, and chain herself to the bulldozers when necessary. her first newspaper photo since becoming mayor was taken on the eastwing trail in the park. GO JENNY.
sun 26 aug....whats new????a kicker on Holy Roller, thats what! and the start ramp is a half metre higher so its easier to get some speed up without bustin your chain.also the wall of death has had the landing raised and extended... its a bit harder now. had a massive jump session in there today ..wicked,,, only to get bummed by a pitbike rider who gave me some attitude cause i hassled him for digging holes all over the park with his trigger happy throttle hand. throttle his neck more like it.like ive got a spare 2 hours to go round fixing up the damage. PUNK....when youre busted, youre busted! hang your head in shame and dont get caught doing it again.oh yeah, and apologise and maybe i'll get off your back.@%&%%#@#$#@$##&^#^@&*^%$$#$##
mon 13 aug.....just got back from a solo effort re-locating the landing ramp off Holy roller. its now 2 metres further to jump, but has a level safety ramp leading up to it, so now you can hit it at speed. i was having a few high speed cracks at it yesterday and was landing in the middle of the platform and having to launch on the rebound straight away to still land the ramp , so i thought i'd move it further out OK? i also cut a bit more off the righthand corner of the platform so its easier to hit the ramp off the right.
by the way, the up ramp has been moved to the left so its now a doddle to do the gap and holy roller. EVEN AN 11 YEAR OLD GROM DID IT YESTERDAY(hi jack).
me, steve, grant, rich and rob all put a bit of work into a new northshore trail off razorback mountain, its wicked and looks scarey but its actually a piece of piss so have a crack!!!!!
SO, SEE YOU GUYS ON SATURDAY, THERES HEAPS TO DO. THE MORE OF YOU THAT TURN UP, THE MORE STUFF WE HAVE TO RIDE.
sat 21 july.whats been happening??? not much, ive been real busy with my real life but will be coming back with a vengeance soon.but yes, sam i am has been extended and holy roller has a lower up ramp and a safety ramp too!
holy roller is going to be made a little safer by moving the up ramp a little to the left as the landing is a bit touchy and will put in a wee table before the down ramp in case you dont leap far enough.
the wall of death will have the landing ramp moved further out so you can go large and actually exit from the top of wall, oh yeah baby!!!!!
the fantastic folks at Homecreators have loaned the park a massive yellow shipping container which is at the original BBQ area. im working on a spectacular technical trail in the eastwing incorporating a ramp onto the container roof and a ramp as well as a huck off the other side. yeehah!!!!
the park is a bit of a mess and thats cause hardly none of you punks are joining the work partys. Rich and me are doing all the grafting and we dont even have the time to ride in there any more. come on yous guys, remember the good old days, the pride and workmanship and all that bollocks....yeah, whatever..i'll shut up now.
"rome wasn't built in a day"...but the bloody Park was aye!!!!!!!!!!( i tell ya, if me and rich had've been in rome we would've built that sucker in an afternoon.)
sun 10 june.......well its been a week now since we built the new ramp off the road gap called "holy roller", nearly enough time to recover from my 2 massive tumbles off the bloody thing. ive had a few complaints that its too easy so will be making the gaps a little bigger. so any of you punks who are trying to work up the courage to stomp it better get in quick.
ive decided to extend Sam i am all the way to the edge of the park(at the bottom of the black forest) should get another 4 jumps in. will have to make a massive lob jump to allow xc riders on pinehaven to cross under. man its gonna be such a wicked trail.
no saturday workparty next week as im too tired.
tues 29 may..........wicked, all is going really well, considering me and rich are the only workers working the park these days. and jack of course but he can only just lift a spade, and thats cause its bigger than he is! heaps of out of towners have discovered the park so its been busy. road gap is extended, twisted sister has a new down ramp, and a big wall ride to gap is going in after jacksplat soon.
come on you guys, we need some help this sunday to tidy things up and put down some carpet.
oh yeah, the council had a meeting about the link road going thru the park so me and rich went along with our banners and a portable ramp which we set up over their map table and gave a wee demo on the future of the park. there were about a hundred or so folks there, a couple of neighbours of the new road, but the rest were there to lend support for the park. the storm water action group tried to thwart our plans but now the council will put in a small lake to collect silt which we can use to make a few random hills here and there. after a stylish whip to nose wheelie over the map, the head dude making the road said he'd put in a massive pipe under the road so we could access both sides of the new park...awesome. also there is another huge area of trees that we can use, so the future of the park is looking fantastic.
ALL OF YOU RIDERS OUT THERE .....PLEASE FIND A WAY TO GIVE YOUR VOICE TO THE REBIRTH OF THE BIGGER AND BETTER KAPITI MTB PARK. GET INVOLVED!
i cant believe it but the top blokes at RAUMATI VILLAGE MEATS keep handing over the sausages, i rate dudes like them who give and give and expect nothing...i bet none of you guys are buying their meat because of their sponsorship?????LEGENDS...thanks bill and john.
trials riders?????? do you guys want to build your own trials arena? come on, do it. get in touch and we'll make it happen.
you may have noticed that the trails have been immaculately groomed lately...Rich has a new rake and has spent many hours in there grooming, grooming, grooming. top bloke!!!
SEE YOU PUNKS SUNDAY
tues 1st may..a start ramp for Sam i am went in and the first gap jump has been made bigger. twisted sister is also going to be extended as we are landing on the ground(oh yeah we're hard).Rich and me did some grafting on sunday to make this happen. alas , the road gap is going to get a minor extension off the ramp to make it a bit easier(wont have to pedal so hard).and thanks to andrew for testing out the gravel patch on the sam i am gap landing.ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
park is awesome now thanks to the wee spot of rain.see you all sunday for some bbq action...come on, i need the help!
anzac day. .....a huge apology to Jack for making him sound like a man when really he's just a contender for mr puniverse...he's only 11 yrs old and weighs 32 kilos, but i can see how he jumps so well as i thought he had only 3 inches of travel, but actually he has 4 inches.. the mystery is solved.
tues 3rd april...bloody marvelous, two wicked new trails up and running. Project K put in a nice and easy trail from knoll towards the black forest. easy except for the seesaw at the end which goes out flat but then drops you about a metre down the hill. feels like your floating oh yeah!!! nice one guys, its now called PK.
last sunday me and the gang re-did the original stepdown jump(next to PK). its now a skinny gap jump (twisted sister)and a massive ramp into the sky (jack splat)to launch you over the gap.up near the road gap we'll put in a step down to get more pump for this frightening trail, (called Sam i am)cause sam built it all by himself(well he dug a hole anyway). Jack the bloody legend was the first to pop jack splat..it was amazing... 13 years old and 45 kgs, with 3 inches of travel on a 24 incher..jack rabbit we call him!
after intense pressure from the Parks only sensible rider (Rich) a real easy wooden trail is to be built in this area too. to be called "pansies frolick" it will have a 2 metre wide boardwalk to a 3cm stepdown, followed by a rad wallride on a scary 5 degree slant(from horizontal) and then finishing with a seesaw 10cm off the ground (and fixed so it wont pivot). i might put it out on the carpark actually so you dont have to get up the nerve to climb over the chain at the gate.yay, i cant wait.
monday 26 march. captains log.....whats been happening??? heaps ow! new drop off cloud 9, fallen trees have been cleared, raked most of the trails, oh, and Rae threw a phat tail whip over the trough and cooked it big time and broke her wrist. nice!!!
Bunnings Waikanae have just given us a whole load of timber posts so get ready for some massively high northshore. THANKS BUNNINGS>>>YEE HAH! the time is ripe for the continuation of the road gap.... big step up to hip to wall ride to double...yeeeoow!!!!!!!
did you know?...........the majority of Burkes cycles employees are alcoholics! spotted ...a subversive bunch of hops swilling dirt jumping denim wearing sifty types whipping it all out on the trails yesterday. welcome to the Kilbirnie massive.proof too that alcohol greatly improves exhilaration over the road gap. kids... dont try this at home, booze and dirtjumping takes years of sifting about various bikeshops to achieve the correct balance.
me and the group that is Project K will be putting in a new skills trail off the Knoll this wednesday. rollers and skinnies and a seesaw me thinks.
blahblahblahoverandoutfool.
rod, no fool fools.
thurs 8 march....yeah gidday. well, we had a good tidy-up last sunday and put lots of carpet down on the sandy bits. Rich tidied up the magic rug and i put in a mini wall-ride on the new easy jump trail that i havent even named yet. marty steve and andrew and the mad jumping bros. put an awesome effort in and have nearly finished the new trail back from cloud 9 to the toolbox. while we were in there, 4 young punks on a couple of pit bikes came roaring thru the park, so we thought we'd better staunch them out. if you see those punks in there please let me know.
thanks to Rich once again for supplying the liquid refreshments.
oh, the pallets are still coming so mucho ramp building to be had soon.
i have a band of fine willing new volunteers who will be organising a few projects for the park, one of which will be an open day with a few competitions involving rider prowess, e.g. biggest huck off the gap, stylyist move over the seesaw etc. dont have a date yet but hope to be mid march. brush up on your skills, i want you all to be there and show the council how big the park could be and maybe we'll get some money to make things bigger and better huh!
must dash, ciao
rod.
friday night 23rd feb....oh yeah i'm back from 2 weekends riding the forest in rotovegas, and i'm highly motivated to get cracking on building more trails in the park. i was hoping to get a few calls after the write up in the local rag, but NADA. looks like i'll just have to keep on building a mtb park for you all by myself. ( yes and you small band of loyal regulars). we are in desperate need of long bits of timber, especially strong sturdy stuff to build legs for grants new wooden trail. i have a meeting with the council next week so will try to get them coughing up some materials but surely some of you know some builder type dudes who can slide some timber our way.
oh, if you're in rotorua to ride, go and stay at the redwood holiday camp. thay have cheap units and a pool and are 300metres from the trails and they are very bike friendly.
see you on the trails punks.
tues 13th feb....well well well, we had a posse of dirtbikers ripping up our trails on sat night. they must have read the story in the paper and went to check it out. also the toolbox was broken into again, but i fixed it proper like today. not sure when i can get in to have another work session but will let y'all know ( all 4 of you who always turn up) good news any way huh that we may get to keep the park after they put the link road thru. probably be no fossil fuel by then anyhow.
breaking news...it was luke and aidan who put in the trail from cloud 9 to the trough. nice work. they only fessed up after they heard i liked it. punks!!!
tues , Waitangi day.
well i was at the park at dawn this morning raising the flag. where was you guys. huge thanks to you fellas ( and raewyn) for moving all that wood and carpet into the park on sunday. A FINE EFFORT. now i can get building some wicked ramp action. we put in 2 small ramps along from huckster which will be part of the new easy jumping trail. third section will be a real easy wall ride at a 45 degree lean, or maybe a little double. i've decided to put in a steep gap jump in after the wall ride too, infact i'm gonna try and keep huckster going all the way to the junction of supermario.
i have also arranged to have a 100 pallets dropped off in the carpark. if you see them would be great if you could pick one up and carry it into the park a bit so they dont get pinched.
i will be spending a few late afternoon's in the park from the 14th feb, so if you want to help me build something, come on in. give me a call to see when i'll be there.
some tosser has built a whole new trail from top of cloud nine back to the trough. it rocks, so will be putting some work into that one to make it rockier( get it? rockier, rocks, even tho there are no rocks ha!) i suspect it was steve trying to make up for building a jump over an xc trail (legend). trailmaster andrew wasted both his legs attempting a backflip over the 3rd ramp on huckster. now he 's walking like hes got a carrot up his wotsit.
coming soon...DH guru john kirkaldie is going to pay us a visit and show us all how a REAL DH GOD rides the park .( i havent told him yet but he'll turn up or my name isnt rob bradley)
blah blah blah oh yeah. local park dominatrix that is jeff, roosted off the carpet onto the seesaw and hucked his rig clear over the ramp section and laned it on the portable down ramp on his first crack. legend in the making.
over and out.
sun 28th jan.
hi everybody, sorry things have been a bit quiet lately...its that time of the year. big thanks to Rich and you guys who turned up last weekend to fill in that random hole and tidy up cloud 9. i could go on and on about the crap that keeps happening in the park ( i mean the littering, unauthorised digging, tool box vandalism etc) but what the heck...what i really want to say is...GODDAMNIT...I didnt bust my ass setting up a mtb park, throwing my own money at it, struggling with old skool bureaucrats, getting in the dog box with my family, spending all my spare time scrounging shit off the community, driving backwards and forwards loaded up with materials blah blah blah to then go riding in the park to get friggin wound up by the wanton disregard for all of our efforts in bringing this sad non mtbing community a bit of life. ...i did it for you guys!!!!! its your park, somewhere for you to get away from nagging parents, girlfriends, wives, kids, husbands , boyfriends, and of course the mother in law. where you can hide from your real world, become a better rider and person and therefore pull more chicks(always a bonus). what i mean is ...its yours, no really it is yours. any of you who have floated those 2 wheels over a ramp, slid that rear tyre out of a berm, or just got thru that section for the first time..anyone who has been in the park and without realising it discovered a big shit eating grin on their face...welcome to my world. YES its ours. take some pride in this little play pen we have. seek out those terrorists who threaten to bring down the wrath of red tape and officialdom upon us. just ride ride ride but leave the trail making to those who turn up twice a month to make our haven on the coast a better place to be. in other words... if i catch any of you little pissants mucking up our attempt at mtb heaven i'm gonna WASTE YA.
have a nice day.
rod "the gromet waster" bad ass bardsley.
p.s. in english this means....DONT dig or build anything, or litter or wreck stuff or i'm gonna WASTE YA.
tues 2nd jan.
yeah, so happy new year and all that. whats up this coming weekend??? i'll tell you what! steve will start his new ramp structure from the magic rug into the bowl. its gonna be a rollercoaster style ramp up in the trees. i,m gonna finish off the wall ride with a table top and down ramp addition. grant has built 20 metres of ramp in his lounge which will be teleported to the bowl. also we're goin to put a higher start ramp in for the road gap so fat bastards wont have to pedal into it. there is also heaps of minor trail tweaks that need doing so i'm hoping for a good turnout. as usual, strong young workers are needed to transport pallets and timber into the bowl.
that top bloke Santa obviously got a few letters for jump bikes for the Kapiti Coast. good to see a whole heap of new bikes and riders in the park. while the whole of NZ is under water, the Park is still dry and there is a whole heap of new trails and jumps appearing all the time. ROCK ON!
did you hear that Rae backed Lukes new Mongoose into a roadsign? ha!
SEE Y'ALL AT 10am THIS SUNDAY.
mon 11.12.06
so...we've all been busy reshaping the Amphitheatre and now goblin is much easier to follow and goes right round the back in the opposite direction. Huckster is now finished with a 8 ft high wall ride with a twistd kicker to get you up on to it. its a difficult section to ride well , so i'm gonna put a lower wall at more of an angle up against it so it can be used as a down ramp too.
COMING SOON......
a trail from the top of plague back towards the road gap.
a trail from the magic rug to outback behind the ridge.
a high trail stucture from the top of outback into the amphitheatre.
a trail from top of super mario to the trough.
......and hopefully a new loop on from one tree hill to the tip entrance and back....xc mayhem oh yeah.
oh, and as the road gap is too easy and a bit boring... steve and the gang will add a couple of sections afterwards....i.e. land the gap..step-up to ramp...90degree roll-off to double berm double!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and finally, grant and myself will put in a baby jump trail next to the seesaw that will be real easy for you fullahs who are just getting into jumping.
OK YOU YOUNG GUYS..... i know you're really keen to help out. those pallets and wood at the far end of the park...it would be awesome if each time you go in for a ride you could just grab one measely pallet and drag it over to near the seesaw, yeah thats all...i really dont have the strength to do it all myself. it would help me immensely ( and it would help you immensely too as i can then build you another awesome trail)
thurs nite....
HELP HELP HELP me please. any of you young strong dudes who are in the park this weekend....i've dumped heaps of carpet and pallets at the far end of Outback but my old man's back cant really move it any distance. I would be ever so grateful if an effort was put in to drag it over to near the seesaw so i can build some wicked trails this weekend! thanks.I'm going in friday afternoon @ 3ish to build a massive stepdown on the Huckster (and a big assed wall ride if i get time)if anyone wants to help out!(someone has to help me cause i cant get the pallets over there by myself)
tues 28 nov.
well, a few of us have made a new jump trail after the Jetty , its called Huckster.its a bit scary so its gonna get changed this weekend. the last jump will hopefully be a massive stepdown. this sunday will be a major effort to re-do goblin to go around the perimeter of the amphitheatre, so we can use the bowl to its fullest for jump trails and ramps. i'm hoping we have a few of you guys turn up to help cause there is alot of shapeing and border logs to be moved around. Brett has given us a huge load of carpet. its at the far end of outback if anyone feels like hauling it over to the seesaw!!!!!!!! the high winds weve had lately have dumped a load of debris everywhere, so theres heaps of easy housework to do this sunday if you want to bring your mum.
Grant will hopefully cut back the encroaching blackberry too.
we have a gang of mtbers from 'pram college who will build a trail this weekend too. rock on!
it was good to see Simon Kennett rippin up the trails last saturday... i made him promise to put the park in the next "classic mtb rides" before i let him ride the seesaw!
if any of you xc dudes think the park is getting a bit hardcore...you are right! its because no xc riders are turning up to help out! come on, we need you trail riders to keep up the flow!
SEE YOU ALL ON SUNDAY, 10AM. BRING A RAKE IF YOU CAN!
SUNDAY 5TH NOVEMBER (yeah i know its the same day as the Waikanae bike ride thing , but come on really, its on the bloody road....traffic, glass, tarmac, lycra, OR dappled sunlight, trees, native fauna, dirt, and hot chicks,...i mean sausages. gosh its hard to decide isnt it?)
NEWS REPORT.................Not a great deal of workers turned up today, but those who did put in a fine effort to finish of f the finest rythym section ever created. The ever progressing SUPERMARIO is now complete. CHECK IT OUT...."kicker to step-down.....ramp to step-down....8M wooden tabletop....gap......twisted kicker to wallride downramp....berm out. Pop,pop,pop,pop,pop....yee hah!
Steve's new ramp( now called "the Jetty") is finished and boy is it a big drop with a harsh landing. we've decided to attach a landing ramp to the end (with a 3 foot drop) so it can be done at any speed. after that will come a step up and over(the ridge) landing an a fast tree corridor with a stepdown and then a gap jump. Steve (the bloody legend) will then put in yet another jump trail next to this with a massive 2 stage wall ride.
CARPET, CARPET ,CARPET..... we dumped a load of carpet under the new table top and theres still some at the far end beyond "outback". feel free to place the stuff on any sandy sections that crop up as the park gets drier.
PLANKS, PLANKS, PLANKS...we need heaps of the stuff to use as the riding surface on all the structures. hit up your builder mates for any off-cuts, they only need to be 40 cm long. if you see any piles of planks around, go and ask if you can use it for THE PARK. anyone you know ripping down an old fence?...we'll have it.
rod "whip it out" bardsley
weds 1st nov.
IF U CANT BEAT 'EM JOIN 'EM..........ok you guys. sorry i've been giving you random diggers a hard time. i was young and silly once too and i never listened to stupid OLD W-----'s either so here's the deal!!!!! i have dropped off a load of wooden pallets, some planks, and strips of carpet at the far end of the park on the outback trail( where the chainlink fence is. drag what you want into the Amphitheatre and build yo selfs some jumps. GO ON...DO IT!!!! PUT THEM WHERE YOU WANT BUT TRY TO STAY OFF THE EXISTING TRAILS OK.
monday 30th oct........I've just got back from some trailbuilding action in the Park. SuperMario now has a straight thru option (instead of the berm) with a gap jump then a slanted kicker. This means i've had to change the layout of goblin, so now the long low ramp is done the other way and is part of a trail called Deviant, and Goblin has been moved further to the left leaving the Amphitheatre.Rae and Alex have finished YouSucker. Also a new trail Espresso from the top of Razorback.
If anyone knows Kelvin? (who did a piledriver off the seesaw and hurt his neck) can you please let me know how he is!
A big THANKS to the following park user's;
everyone who has rolled the tyres down into the gully..shouldn't be to hard to push them all back up!!!
the punks who dismantled the BBQ table to make the dumbest jump i've seen yet....its ok guys, we'll just eat off the ground!
and last but not least the loser with the caterpillar on his lip who thought it would be fun to chase his son around the trails on his motorbike (and not wearing a helmet too) and then he even had the nerve to steal some of our carpet. All denied obviously, but the TWAT didnt realise that a MTB'er chasing him round the trails was doing some filming with a helmetcam. BUSTED!!! looking forward to seeing you again BUDDY.
I wouldn't mind some help this Sunday, there's heaps to do. over and out.
p.s. we need heaps of carpet taken over to near the seesaw. if you can find the energy to gab an armful from the entrance, please do....thanks.
Mid October.
Well, summer's almost here which is great for most of you, but sadly means mucho more work for me trying to get the Park in good shape for the masses of mtb freaks who are starting to shred their way over to our fair shore. YES, THAT WAS A BLOODY HINT TO YOU LAZY ASS PUNKS WHO SEEM TO FIND THE ENERGY TO RIDE THE PARK BUT ODDLY FIND THEMSELVES ON THE SOFA COME WORKDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! While i'm feeling sorry for myself....... who are the little S_ _ _'s who keep putting in dumb random jumps on the trails mid-week, when they could come over for the work party and build some really nice trails with our help??????Honestly, i'm getting a little pissed at all the random mess you guys are causing. I cant wait to catch one of you cats at it! I'll throw you over the Gap with your ride jammed up your colon!
Need i remind you all that this is a MTB Park, not a kiddies sandpit.
Ahhhhh, i feel much better now!
Anyhow, we have more ramps arriving thanks to Sam from OYB being fast on his feet and letting Jason at DOC know where he can leave all their unwanted boardwalks. It seems there will be a couple of hundred metres of the stuff, so i want to get it all erected asap. To do this we're gonna need heaps of posts to support it all so if anyone can scam anything suitable, let me know. Anything solid, 1/4, 1/2, or full rounds, 1 metre or longer will be primo, but hey, anything will do.
Super Mario is now a rockin. the next workday we will lengthen the last jump, and add a kicker to to top jump to create a stepdown. Steve's new ramp into space should be done this weekend. man, thats gonna kick ass. Coming soon is a rythym section of smaller jumps for the riders with smaller gonads.
I hope a lot of you riders out there can come along to the next work party which is sunday 5th nov at 10am. We need a final push to get the Park into shape and tidy things up a bit. theres heaps to do, some of it real easy, so dont think its all hard graft. I save all that heavy, hard crap for Steve and Grant. (bloody legends)
WEAR YOUR FREAKIN HELMETS IN THE PARK YOU FREAKS!
"whats the difference between a grom' and a sandfly?..................NOTHING! they're both annoying, bleed when you slap em, and everyone wants to slap em any chance they get!"
Rod (lightning)
P.S. thanks to all you guys ( and Rae) who keep turning up to make the park what it is today. you should be PROUD!
SUNDAY 1ST OCTOBER
Hey, whats happening? More bloody work thats what.Things have been a bit slow cause i had a baby a few weeks back and i haven't taught her how to hold a shovel yet! Hoping we have a good turnout this sunday as we need a bit more progress before the KCDC come down to give us the green light. Super Mario really needs the jumps sortrd out once and for all, and Steve's new platform is gonna be hucking a few of you punks off it by sausage time! We're hopeing to put in a wall ride after it too!!!!!! I have a few ideas for some more singletrack, so there's going to be projects for all.
Has anyone found the new trail i put in to the left of razorback's descent? It's called Tall Beast after my good riding buddy of the same name from the legendary rockers HLAH. Andrew and i put in a few years of trail riding in the French Alps before my wife tricked me into making babies and i had to come home.........hence the Park.
Its a scarey bit of tight and steep, oh yeah. blah blah blah, enough name dropping (but i actually do know a few famous people, shame none of them know me...)
get your asses off the sofa and down for some hot sizzling action ( sausages too).
Rod.
p.s. check out the new walking/riding path the council have made alongside the road...nice one.
WORK PARTY SUNDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER
Only a small handful of dedicated workers showed up to whip the trails into shape last workday. We made the trail corridors more obvious in the Amphitheatre by placing branches alongside.
The Park is getting real busy weekends now which is a bonus.
Too many of you young fellas are putting in random jumps in the bowl which is causing a bit of havoc. So i have now decreed the Amphitheatre Bowl a NO DIG ZONE! Its too sandy and the ramps aren't holding up so from now on we will only be using man made ramps for the jumps here OK? The legend that is Grant will be constructing these as we speak, so we can put them where we like and move them round a bit to suit. So please NO DIGGING HERE ANYMORE.
more news to come later, see you this sunday. (sausages Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm).
WORK PARTY...SATURDAY 19TH AUGUST
HOT OFF THE PRESS!
So yeah, the Park has been so busy i havent had time to post stuff so here it is...
Last sunday had us getting a bit damp but about 12 of us lay down a new trail "Roam" continuing on from "Porridge" and hooking round a couple of berms and traversing south to meet up with Shanes new trail (the whole trail is now Roam) to the left of "Goblin" across the ridge. It rocks and Steve "lets just make a jump right here" put in a nice little kicker on a chicken run, right next to a tree which now has a chicken foot(claw) nailed to it (mmmm nice).
Once again no one had a lighter to start the BBQ so Marty talked me into putting jump leads from Red's battery to the gas!!! Ka Boom @%^&&%$#@$^&*(*%$#$#$! Hey, it worked.
Today Sunday 13th, we had us an impromtu get together and put in a northshore structure in the amphitheatre, Its 1 metre high with a seesaw and a couple of tricky turns.Grant built it at home and we just had to dig a couple of holes and whack in a few nails.Nice one Grant!
Super Mario has claimed 2 victims, so i think we need to do a bit of shaping on the 2 bottom jumps .
Heaps of riders made their first jump over the Road Gap this weekend, including a couple of hardtails. We might put a wee kicker on the ramp soon to keep everyone on their toes!
Ewan has finished his structure behind the Gap, and its real tricky with a drop onto tree roots then a sack catcher of a stair section right after.
The Raumati Beach Butchers have sent us a huge load of sausages so if you get a chance to thank them, then please do. Thanks guys, very tasty!
TO COME...... Looks like we may have a local graffiti artist coming in with a couple of car wrecks to bomb up and give us something styley to ride over. I'm thinking an old VW as a ramp up onto the roof of a Nissan C20, with a manual down onto the back of an old Holden ute, oh yeah.
See you guys on Saturday 19th August 1pm for our next work party.
WORK PARTY …SUNDAY 6TH AUGUST 10AM
NEWS BULLETIN
Well, another successful work party last Saturday. While it was pissing down in welly, we had us another cracker day on the sunshine coast. About 12 of us braved the midwinter sun and put in a massive 5 new trails.
There is now a ramp section on Goblin leaving the Amphitheatre.
One tree hill is now a full loop with some hardcore berms .
A new trail off Cloud 9 with a big floater jump with massive landing,
A new trail parallel to Toast which will exit near the Magic carpet, it has massive plastic crates sunk to form a stair section.
A new stair section at the back of the road gap berm ( lookout, it’s lethal)
Man, things are rockin along very nicely and its very pleasing to have you new guys coming out to make your own trails. RESPECT!
The northshore stuff is kicking into gear thanks to Brice and Grant. We have a ramp with a see-saw midway thru it coming soon, also a ramp section with a stepdown. These will go in a procession after the one already built so the home run from the Amphitheatre is gonna KICK ASS!
Much to Steve’s dismay I’m making him bring the landing ramp of THE GAP a bit closer and higher so it’s a bit more do-able for us mere mortals.( Evan still has to use the bottom half of the landing only!)
SPRUNG!……….Tama ( of VORB) riding our trails with a bunch of foxy mtb babes.
He had the VORB limo parked outside, and there was a whole lot of rubber items inside (and they weren’t tyres I can tell you).
Speaking of legends, and mtb babes, you should see the infamous Raewyn going massive on the Cloud 9 pallet drop, with a cross-up too! And on a hardtail! And she only started riding a few months ago. Its people like her that make me want to give up riding and start a lawn bowls club where we drink Ribena and watch the grass grow and….any way.
Finally… the tip-face has moved to the other side so the seagulls and machinery are but a distant murmur.
More finally…Have you all noticed that no matter how much it rains , the Park stays pretty dry, I’m really impressed with how the surface is holding up. We have heaps of carpet in reserve and the mats just keep on coming.
See you on the trail ,
Rod. “If it aint wet and slippery it must be the Kapiti MTB Park”
